Overview: Beneteau First 36
The first step in the redevelopment of the First range is bridging the gap between high-tech development in racing and mainstream racer-cruisers.
Comfort, performance, utility, elegance, high-tech construction, and a reasonable price; all highly sought-after standards in boats these days, with Beneteau hitting the mark on all these categories with its First range — and the First 36 is no exception.
Prepare to be amazed at the planing experience with very low displacement, a well-thought out and carefully designed deck layout for those times when you’re short-handed as well as for fully crewed racing, and a practical cabin interior with three, full-sized, double berths with smart and innovative details for cruising. The First 36 was designed by a passionate and international group of designers, each of whom are sailors who know what works best in a vessel — including Kristian Hajnsek, CTO of Seascape — so as an owner, you know you’re getting the best balance of everything.
This includes the sailing experience, with the design team working through numerous iterations to find the perfect sweet spot between an easily planing hull and upwind performance. Optimised for short-handed sailing, the F36 is also great as a club-racer, a safe and fun family cruiser or a thrilling daysailer with its high sail area/displacement coefficient and balanced nautical design. Where needed, the sailing functionality was given priority over style throughout the design process, so the F36 is not just a head-turner.
For example, for the racers out there, a higher-than-average steering wheel gives the helmsman enough room to move towards the mainsail winch when sailing short-handed, with the cockpit winches’ position allowing for one or two crew members to work the mainsail or primary winches in full crew mode. On the other hand, for weekends away with the family, the racing gear can be removed, with the cockpit benches with cushions increasing the seating area as well as added storage space and rope organisation. The cockpit table is also big enough to seat six. The wide hull gives the F36 the same living volume as the F40.7, and has a large central fridge, a home office with the full-sized navigational table, and two portlights in every room — versatility at its finest.
The First 36 had its world premiere at the Düsseldorf Boat Show in January 2022, with Sundance Marine receiving the first for the south pacific in late 2022.
