Spotlight on the Excess 11
Excess 11 Bombardia Wins 1st Place at ARC 2021
The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) is a challenging annual event that sees 200 boats and 1200 people every year to sail 2700 NM across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia. The most recent of these challenging events was a proud moment for Excess Catamarans, with Marco Knitel’s Excess 11 Bombarda
The only Excess catamaran in ARC 2021, Bombarda departed from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria on 21 November 2021. The Excess 11’s state-of-the-art technical design, excellent view of the sails and their increased sail area, and the finesse offered by the twin aft helm stations surely contributed to the win, along with the crew’s unrivalled passion for sea and sailing, strong team spirit and rigorous sea planning. Hostile weather and unpredictable sea conditions were overcome to allow the Bombarda to complete the trans-Atlantic crossing in 18 days, 23 hours, 35 minutes, and 45 seconds.
The Excess 11 is the only large-scale production boat on the market for this size of catamaran. She is one of the smallest cruising catamarans capable of offering so much comfort and space, not to mention the thrill of sailing. The Excess 11 is a boat capable of long passages and is made for life on board, as demonstrated by the Bombarda’s win in last year’s ARC. Excess’ naval architects and designers have focused on one objective: to create a real cruising catamaran capable of taking you to the most remote spots in the world.
With the Excess 11, Excess 12 and Excess 15 now all available in Asia Pacific, expect to see more of these elegant multihulls appearing in more events and Australian harbours.
