International Spotlight — 42m Cantiere delle Marche M/Y Crowbridge
Tailored to the experienced client’s requests, the M/Y Crowbridge is built for long hauls, family gathering and leisurely comfort
Perfectly customised
Cantiere delle Marche’s M/Y Crowbridge, designed by Tomasso Spadolini, is a classic example of how yacht manufacturers customise vessels for clientele. Spadolini’s 42m yacht, designed for a repeat client, switched from a planing hull to a custom displacement yacht for family reasons and wanting to cruise in more leisurely comfort. Due to this, the Crowbridge only has a top speed of 15 knots, with an economic cruising speed of 10 knots.
With a beam of 8.5 metres, the clean and sober profiled yacht has enormous space while the round-bilge hull with rounded bow means it can venture through weather that planing yachts cannot. The generous interior and exterior allow for weeks onboard at a time, allowing for both private and social areas to be set up. For family time away from land, the client requested to have six ensuite guest cabins on the lower deck, three double cabins for the owners’ sons and three twin single cabins for their grandchildren, something not often seen on yachts this size. The master stateroom on the main deck forward includes a private study, a large walk-in wardrobe, separate His and Hers bathrooms with a common shower stall and a day sofa that converts into a bed.
Family gathering has been further integrated into the design with the large galley on the main deck, which has fridges and freezers for long trips as well as a dumbwaiter to the pantry on the deck below. Tailored to the client’s tastes, a traditional salon and dining room are on the main deck, with an identical extendable dining table on the upper deck. A saltwater hot tub, bar unit and small dining lounge add relaxation and luxury to the sundeck, which also has large, comfortable sunbeds for sunbathing.
A tender garage is found on the upper deck aft and which houses toys such as an Optimist and a Laser sailing boat, both deployed from the central transom staircase. No space is left without thought as extra cold storage and a washing machine and dryer are located here for crew use. Three cabins and a dinette/laundry are found on the lower deck for the crew, with a captain’s cabin on the bridge deck. A tank-top tunnel of 1.6m in height runs from the crew area under the guest accommodation to the engine room and has extra storage space for the long voyages the client enjoys. It is through working directly with clients, such as with the M/Y Crowbridge, that yachting manufacturers expand their repertoire and build unique pieces of art.
