Review: Saxdor 200 Sport

Performance pedigree and value that's hard to match, Saxdor are likely to be a popular option now they've landed in Aus

When Axopar burst onto the Aussie boating scene in 2014, they raised the standard for high performance adventure boats.

Few have been able to sidle up and give them a run for their money, but now they have met their match in the Saxdor 200 Sport.

Saxdor hasn't just appeared out of nowhere with the secret formula, however. As it happens, Saxdor founder Sakari Mattila was part of Axopar's founding team and one of their original designers.

The combination of contemporary styling, vertical bows and outboard engines, superior performance and incredible quality at competitive prices that defines Saxdor represents the ultimate synthesis of Mattila's experience and knowledge. This tidy 20-foot sports boat comes complete with a 100hp Mercury outboard for as low as $54,995 on the water and ready to go.

While the Saxdor brand is still an unfamiliar site in local waters, it's gained a lot of attention since its inception in 2018. Accolades include the award for best entry level boat at the ‘European Best of Boats Awards 2020’, finalist nomination for ‘European Powerboat of the Year Awards 2021’ and finalist nomination for ‘Motor Boat Awards 2021 - Sportsboat Category’.

The 200 achieves exceptional seakeeping and fuel efficiency from a performance oriented twin-step hull, a slender beam and an unusually sharp deadrise angle (22.5 degrees at the transom). Of course, it doesn't hurt the whole thing weighs as little as 780kg plus an engine.

It's not just an economical ride, however, the Saxdor 200 is also a versatile piece of kit. There's an option for a four-seat layout, but it's this jetski-like 'triple jockey seat' configuration that's really caught our eye. Paired with up to the maximum of 175hp of outboard grunt, we can just imagine how much fun could be had out there on a sunny day hitting top speeds of up to 45kt. And once it's time for a break, the bow sun lounge and easy access to the water aft will keep everyone happy.

The standard package provides everything you'd need for a great compact boat, but you could easily get carried away with some of the options offered by Saxdor. These include Simrad technology upgrades, arch and T-top, water-ski pole and storage upgrades. Perhaps the most intriguing on the list is an option to turn the little vessel into an overnighter with a front deck camper tent, that's complete with 12V outlet and lighting!

With such a compelling offering, we think Saxdor might be onto a good thing down here in Aus. Expect to see plenty of the 200 Sport models out this way soon, as well as the compelling new 320 range coming soon.
