Maritimo S55
What better way to ride into the new year than in a shiny new Maritimo — or with an order on the books, at least.
When 2020 says to you ‘hey, I've got something for you’, the response is likely to be ‘nah, I don't want it.’ ‘But you don't even know what it is,’ 2020 says. ‘It's cool, I don't want anything right now, just keep it to yourself.’
What a mistake that would be as 2020 comes through with the goods to deliver up Maritimo's new S-series sedan motoryacht, the S55. The boat isn't actually due to premier until May 2021, but the announcement at least gives us hope for a brighter tomorrow.
The S-series is Maritimo's long-range adventure category, built for off-shore cruising, stability and performance. The newly developed S55 hull has been designed around direct shaft drive technology, and refined with variable deadrise hull, deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft. Everything's laid out to complement balance and a low centre of gravity, including the three fuel tanks which combine to give a whopping 4,550L fuel capacity.
This large fuel holding feeds a standard offering of twin Volvo Penta D11-670MHP engines, which can be optioned up to Volvo Penta, Scania or CAT Power units up to 1000MHP.
The S55 takes all the engineering and performance characteristics that the S-series is renowned for and exceeds them in many ways. But Maritimo mavens will no doubt have noticed that there are even more updates on this new design, most notably, the styling.
Maritimo's Director of Design Tom Barry-Cotter explains, “The new S55 offshore adventuring sedan motoryacht marks the first of an evolutionary design shift to the exterior form and styling within the S-Series sedan motoryacht range. The key practical design features of S-Series models past remain, with an array of exterior form advancements and additional features included.”
This brings us to the adventure deck (catchy name), otherwise known as lower cockpit deck or swim platform. This can be optioned with an extended platform to produce a huge space, and can also include an electrically-actuated tender garage. The upper cockpit is full shaded by the extended hardtop, and can be closed off with clears, making it an ideal all-weather space. The upper cockpit seating layout is relaxed and practical, which comes by way of the sheer size of this deckspace; in fact, it's the largest al-fresco dining area in its class.
That hard top, you'll be interested to note, has been engineered to carry up to 350kg, which can allow the tender to be loaded up top to free the garage space below for other purposes.
Maritimo's ingenuity shows itself below decks with a three stateroom, two ensuite layout, comprising a full-beam king master, offset queen forward stateroom and twin single guest suite.
If you're in the market for a brighter 2021, then the S55 is the vessel to get you there.
