Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410

Jeanneau's Sun Odyssey sailing series, now in its eighth iteration, has been an ongoing success for the brand with more than 17,000 unit sales worldwide. The new generation of this lithe lineage introduces a third model into the mix, joining the current 440 and 490 offerings is the adventure-ready Sun Odyssey 410.

The fresh design comes from the mind of naval architect Marc Lombard, with a helping hand from Jean-Marc Piaton to blend a classic sentiment with modern mentality and produce a uniquely liveable boat for its class. There's a choice of four standard interior layouts, ranging from two cabins to three – sleeping up to six people – with additional considerations such as a workshop and full en suite. Thanks to the modern performante hull, there's much more room to move than one might expect.

Sub-deck liveability, however, is but one of the 410's many class-leading attributes. The vessel has been engineered to increase sail carrying capacity, which can delay reefing into greater wind speeds and ultimately produces an all around faster boat. The wide beam and low chine, while facilitating a roomier internal layout, also combine to hold the bow above the water when heeling. The very top of the bow sits slightly out of the water, preventing it from slamming into waves and providing balanced handling in all scenarios.

The standard sails are produced using cross-cut Dacron AP 410g, assembled with triple stitched UV thread and finished by hand. This means they're tough, durable, long-lasting and have maximum stretch resistance. Or for those who want an extra edge on the water, the performance sail option uses a laminated material from Dimension Polyant, which is comprises of a Spectra (aka Dyneema) and polyester weave sandwiched layers of lightweight ripstop fabric.

Well-considered deck plans are easy to move around when on the go, yet relaxing and practical for lazy days on the water. The cockpit has also been furnished with a folding table, large spray-hood and bimini, and a fold-down swim platform. Owners are given a multitude of options to consider when it comes to materials and electronics packages, as well as the potential to customise the hull with a choice of 10 coloured vinyl wraps. At a glance, it's easy to see that the popularity of Jeanneau's Sun Odyssey line is only going to increase with the new 410.
