Creating a splash among the sea of wakeboats at the 2014 Sydney International Boat Show, the Axis Wake Research T22 wakeboat was a fresh pocket rocket.

Axis Wake Research, in case you hadn’t heard, is an independent brand within the Malibu Boats brand of wakeboats and skiboats.

The latest wakeboat from Axis is the T22. It sits in the middle of a range that includes the compact Axis A20 and the hefty A24, but first-time viewers will immediately notice one significant difference – the picklefork bow is gone.

The Axis wakeboat designers have seemingly gone back to the future in creating the T22, and in the words of Malibu national marketing manager David Thorpe, “ …the T-series is all about tradition.”

“We wanted to take the new Axis back to that traditional bow style and move away from the recent square styles,” he said.

“Although the bow is that traditional pointed shape we all grew up with, you can see the beam of this boat is still quite wide. The depth in the keel beam is built as much for the family using it on bluewater as they’re riding in a freshwater river or lake.”

Wakesurfers will be stoked to discover that this Axis T22 wakeboat incorporates malibu surf gate technology, further adding to this model’s versatility and with a capacity of 15 passengers – incredible on a 22ft boat – that’ll be quite a wave pushed out once she’s fully-loaded.

On board, there’s a convertible lounger seat on port for watching the action and the whole cab-forward design delivers responsive holeshot with less bow lift, increasing the driver’s vision from the helm.

Blending Malibu heritage with the contemporary thinking of Axis Wake Research, this new Axis T22 is a helluva lot of boat for less than $70,000 and you can bet we’ll have our hands up for a test drive, just as soon as the water warms up.
