At this year’s Melbourne Boat Show we got to look over an Extreme Boats 850 Game King. Extreme Boats (NZ) is yet another Kiwi aluminium boat manufacturer to make its way over the ditch and this candy red example was the draw card for Victorian dealer Inverloch Marine.

The Extreme Boats 850 Game King had a bright red paint job offset by clean lines and subtle grey highlights. Unsuspecting passers-by probably mistook it for fibreglass.
Construction of the 850 Game King is, however, fibreglass free, utilising only marine-grade high-tensile plate alloy aluminium, quality paint and clear-coat options. The hull and transom are 6mm thick, and the sides 4mm – serious stuff.
The 850 Game King fits neatly in the higher end of the Extreme Boats size range, with a considerable 2.8m beam and 9.9m length on the trailer.
As the name suggests, the Extreme 850 Game King is targeted at serious fishos but the options available make the boat much more flexible than just an offshore fisher. The cabin houses a full-length berth and well-equipped galley, complete with fridge/freezer, compact stove, fresh water and a toilet. The Extreme 850 Game King will suit family and friends for both offshore and inshore exploration.
Recommended horsepower is 250-300hp, so a Yamaha 300hp four-stroke outboard motor will undoubtedly push the big girl along nicely, with the requisite reliability and user friendly nature of fly-by-wire controls. The Extreme 850 Game King is also available with a sterndrive, popular for offshore trolling and long-distance adventurers.
Extreme Boats’ 850 Game King will appeal on looks alone and, from our on-trailer inspection, looks like it has all the characteristics of solid sea keeping design.
As Extreme Boats expands into Australia, expect to see more of them on the waters.
